An Essential Step Integrating Dentofacial Esthetics: Managing the Maxillary Occlusal Plane Transfer

Developing the optimal dentofacial results requires management of many factors, one of primary initial factors is being able to transfer the maxillary occlusal plane properly to reference planes. This is where uncertainty or controversy may lead to incorrect positioning. How do we use anatomical landmarks? Should we relay in head positioning methodology? What is the best method to transfer the occlusal plane to mimic the actual appearance in the patient’s face. This presentation will take you beyond the controversy and provide a practical solution.

  1. Understanding head positioning methods to capture a reference position using conventional and digital procedures.
  2. Reviewing the limitations and errors encountered in transferring the maxillary occlusal plane.
  3. Determining which execution technology, analog and digital, provides the most accurate 3D transfer of the maxillary occlusal plane.
