45th Annual Meeting Cancellation Statement

Friday, May 8, 2020

A Message From President Cary E. Goldstein, DMD

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Wow, what an incredibly difficult time in our history. COVID-19 has made a destructive impact on businesses, travel, and yes – gatherings. By now, many of you are facing a challenging new reality that impacts your employment with an uncertain future for the remainder of 2020 and into 2021. The AAED executive board understands this and wishes everyone good health and a speedy recovery once businesses reopen.

Given these growing concerns around COVID-19, we have come to the difficult decision to cancel our annual meeting this year at the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar resort in Nassau, Bahamas. We felt there were too many 'what if's' and safety concerns to adequately run a successful meeting. Please accept our deepest apologies for any inconvenience this cancellation may cause.

After thoughtful deliberation, the Grand Hyatt has agreed to cancel our 2020 meeting without penalty, as long as we hold our annual meeting there in 2022. For those of you who have made reservations with the hotel, please note your reservation will be automatically canceled and any deposits refunded. Additionally, your meeting registration will automatically transfer over to our 2021 meeting August 5-7, 2021 at Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, California. Should you not be able to attend the 2021 meeting, please let us know by July 31, 2020 so that we may issue a timely refund.

I want to thank and acknowledge three members and two wives for their enormous work that will unfortunately not come to fruition due to this cancellation. Homa Zadeh and Jaime Gil had arranged for an incredible scientific program with speakers from all over the world. I cannot thank them enough for their dedication to the Academy. Additionally, Eric and Lily Fugier, along with my wife, Jody, had planned some amazing excursions, dinners and other surprises for all of you. They hope to work with Kenny in 2022 and bring you all of their wonderful ideas and planned banquets.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during these extremely trying times. As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you have. I look forward to seeing you all at our Annual Meeting in 2021!
