Speaking Request Form

AAED Speaking Request Form for Associates Seeking Fellow Status

The purpose of this form is to act as a guide for Associate members seeking to fulfill the speaking requirement to be considered for elevation to Fellow status in the Academy.

The Executive Council has directed that beginning with the August 2017 annual meeting, each program chair is to set aside 1 hour in the scientific program to be filled with up to 3 separate 20-minute presentations that will appear on the program under the title of Prospective Fellow Candidate. To ensure a structured process for individuals to follow, the Executive Council has developed these procedures, which require the oversight of a Fellow or Life Fellow acting as a “Speaker Mentor” to assist the Associate. The Speaker Mentor will be directly responsible for the preliminary review of the applicant’s presentation, including the review of the slide quality, accuracy of information to be presented, and to make recommendations to improve or change the presentation. The Speaker Mentor will also communicate with the appropriate program chair to recommend consideration for the applicable meeting. Ultimately, the Speaker Mentor is responsible for the guidance and direct review of the applicant’s program, and will advise the program chair as to its readiness to be considered each year and will introduce the presentation/speaker during the annual meeting.

The Associate member wishing to speak should begin the application process a minimum 18-24 months prior to the program. The completed application must be submitted to AAED headquarters at least 15 months prior to the program. The presentation must be completed by the applicant and reviewed and approved by the mentor no later than 12 months prior to the program.

Procedures for Speakers

If selected to speak, please note that speaker must disclose any commercial affiliation at the beginning of their program, as well as identify any material which is not their own. It is acceptable to mention products or other scientific property as long as it is done within the context of a substantive, scientifically-supportable presentation of clinical relevance. It is not acceptable to mention products or services in a way as to infer endorsement.

Due to the audience size in the conference sessions, the required format is a digital presentation in 3:1 format. All presentations will be loaded onto a show laptop and should be either in PowerPoint or in Keynote 2 or Keynote 3. Speaker shall provide a copy of the presentation on a flash drive.
